Berlin never is. It always will be.

- Common Proverb

Vibrant, electric, provincial, metropolitan, slow, fast, enlighted, stubborn, conservative, progressive, left, middle, center, crazy, lovely, aggressive, dirty, clean, naughty, kind, brilliant, stupid, scientific, you name it. Call her what you will, but one thing for sure she is not: boring. And she is a lady. Maybe not the one you meet on a golf course, more likely in a bar or on a bus stop on her way to work.

“Berlin, your face is freckled/ and your mouth is way too big” is the key line in one famous anthem to the city. Most people fall in love with her, and mostly, they don’t know why. Maybe one of my tours can introduce you to her. See for yourself.

The Nazi dictatorship began in 1933 and ended 1945 with the surrender of the german army in Berlin. The allies found a city in smoking ruins, 80 % of the inner ring was destroyed. In those 12 years the vibrant, multireligious and progressive people of Berlin were persecuted, driven from their homes and murdered. But not undisputed, in no other german city the resistance against Mr. Hitlers aryan madness was as strong as here. Berliners did not elect the Nazis in majority, so the hatred of the dictatorship was also targeting Berlin as a whole.

City- West (2,5 h)

All of my tours take place in former East- Berlin, and thats a little unfair towards the old west. The city in the west is still larger, a commercial center and lots of fun to walk around in. What later would become West- Berlin was attached to the city in 1918 and developed into the bulwark of the west during the cold war.
